Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description
A crash occurs in the ring-buffer component during the
late initcall self-test. In the test ringbuffer() function's out free cleanup loop, the check !rb threads[cpu] only identifies NULL entries and fails to detect entries containing an ERR PTR. When kthread run on cpu() fails, it stores an ERR PTR (such as -ENOMEM or -EINTR) in the rb threads[cpu] variable. Because this entry is non-NULL, the cleanup process proceeds to call the kthread stop() function using the ERR PTR. This results in the dereferencing of an invalid pointer, leading to a kernel panic.Recommendations
At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
