Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description
A race condition exists in the Linux kernel during a custom private hash resize. A task can remain blocked in uninterruptible sleep indefinitely, potentially leading to a kernel panic. This occurs because the function
futex pivot pending() reads the hash new and hash variables without serialization. Consequently, a resize task may observe these variables in an inconsistent state, causing the function to return false even after a pivot has completed, which leads the task to sleep after the wakeup signal has already been consumed. The issue involves the futex hash allocate() function and the futex pivot pending() function.Recommendations
At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
