Description The issue allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service due to memory corruption via a crafted spreadsheet. A remote code execution vulnerability exists in the way that Microsoft Excel handles specially crafted Excel files, which could allow an attacker to take complete control of an affected system, install programs, view, change, or delete data, or create new accounts with full user rights.

Recommendations For Microsoft Excel versions 2002 SP3 through 2003 SP3, update to a version that properly validates record information during parsing of Excel spreadsheets. For Office versions 2004 through 2008 for Mac, update to a version that properly handles specially crafted Excel files. For Open XML File Format Converter for Mac, at the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
