VetorAV:L/AC:L/Au:N/C:C/I:C/A:C
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Linux kernel versions prior to 3.4.5
Description The issue is related to the sock alloc send pskb function in the Linux kernel, which does not properly validate a certain length value. This can be exploited by local users to cause a denial of service, resulting in a heap-based buffer overflow and system crash, or potentially gain privileges. The exploitation requires access to a TUN/TAP device.
Recommendations For Linux kernel versions prior to 3.4.5, update to version 3.4.5 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to TUN/TAP devices to minimize the risk of exploitation.
