Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description
The Linux kernel contains a flaw within the AppArmor subsystem related to the handling of Deterministic Finite Automata (DFA) start states during policy unpacking. Specifically, the
unpack pdb() function reads start states from untrusted data, which are then used as indexes into the DFA state tables. If a start state value exceeds the defined number of states within the DFA, an out-of-bounds read can occur when the aa dfa next() function accesses dfa->tables[YYTD ID BASE][start]. This can lead to a kernel memory corruption issue. The issue is addressed by rejecting policies with out-of-bounds start states during unpacking.Recommendations
At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
