Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions libxml2 versions prior to 2.9.6
Description The issue is related to the xz head function in the xzlib.c component of the libxml2 library, which does not restrict memory usage for decoding LZMA files. This allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (memory consumption) via a crafted LZMA file.
Recommendations For versions prior to 2.9.6, update to version 2.9.6 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the xz head function or limiting the processing of LZMA files to minimize the risk of exploitation.
