Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description The issue concerns a potential out-of-bounds access in the Linux kernel when processing short packets. Specifically, in the ppp sync txmung function, there is a risk of accessing data beyond the bounds of the skb buffer when an incoming packet has an empty payload. This is demonstrated by an example where the skb struct contains a pppoe hdr with a length of 0x0, making it unsafe to access data[2]. The fix involves adding bound checking for skb data to prevent such out-of-bounds accesses.
Recommendations At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
