Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description A crash can occur if an ethtool operation is invoked after the shutdown() function is called. The shutdown() function is invoked during system shutdown to stop DMA operations. In gve, shutdown() tears down internal data structures, and if an ethtool operation is dispatched after shutdown(), it can dereference freed or NULL pointers, leading to a kernel panic. This issue can be triggered during forced shutdowns. The fix involves calling netif device detach() in shutdown() to mark the device as detached, preventing dispatching operations to the driver.
Recommendations At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
