Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description
The Linux kernel contains a flaw within the crypto/af alg subsystem, specifically impacting the gcm-aes-s390 driver. A missing initialization in
af alg alloc areq() can lead to an issue where areq->first rsgl.sgl.sgl is not properly initialized, causing a kernel oops when gcm walk start() is called on req->dst. This occurs when an empty ciphertext is processed. The issue does not appear to affect x86 64 systems using gcmaes crypt by sg(). The error manifests as a kernel pointer dereference, potentially leading to system instability. The function gcm walk start() is involved in the error.Recommendations
At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
