Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description
A flaw exists in the Linux kernel’s CAN subsystem, specifically within the
gs usb receive bulk callback() function. This issue relates to insufficient validation of the length of data received via a USB URB (USB Request Block). The vulnerability occurs because the code accesses data within a gs host frame structure without first verifying that the actual length of the received data meets the minimum required length. This can lead to out-of-bounds reads and potential system instability. The fix introduces a function, gs usb get minimum rx length(), to determine the minimum expected data length and ensures that data access only occurs after this check.Recommendations
At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
