#NØØT Security Alerts 🚨 #ALERT — MICROSOFT OUTLOOK: CRITICAL CVSS 9.8 REMOTE CODE EXECUTION VULNERABILITY October 13, 2026
DISCLOSED BY: Microsoft Security Response Center
PRODUCT: Microsoft Office Outlook CVE: CVE-2026-70242 SEVERITY: CRITICAL — CVSS 9.8 WEAKNESS: CWE-122 — Heap-Based Buffer Overflow
AFFECTED PRODUCTS: Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise. Microsoft Office LTSC 2021. Microsoft Office LTSC 2024.
AFFECTED VERSIONS: Office LTSC 2021 before 16.0.14334.20974.
Office LTSC 2024 before 16.0.17932.21056.
Microsoft 365 Apps: affected builds vary by update channel.
IMPACT: A heap-based buffer overflow in Microsoft Office Outlook could allow an unauthenticated remote attacker to execute arbitrary code.
Microsoft assigns an attack vector of NETWORK, low attack complexity, no required privileges and no required user interaction.
Successful exploitation could compromise the affected application environment and expose data accessible through the compromised process.
EXPLOITATION STATUS: VENDOR-CONFIRMED CRITICAL RCE.
No verified malicious in-the-wild exploitation or independently confirmed working public PoC established.
CISA’s vulnerability assessment records exploitation as “none” and potential technical impact as “total.”
This is NOT a CISA KEV inclusion.
Forensic triage: Investigate unusual Outlook crashes, suspicious messages and unexpected processes launched from Outlook.
Review abnormal endpoint behavior and unexplained outbound connections.
No verified CVE-specific attacker infrastructure or malicious file hashes have been published.
URGENT ACTION: Apply Microsoft’s October 2026 Office security updates.
Verify installed builds against the appropriate Office release channel.
Prioritize enterprise endpoints processing external email.
Investigate suspicious activity rather than treating successful patch installation as evidence that earlier compromise did not occur.
CONFIDENCE: HIGH — Microsoft’s official CVE record confirms the memory-corruption vulnerability, critical severity, affected products and remote code-execution impact.
ACTIVE EXPLOITATION: NOT VERIFIED.
