Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Pillow versions prior to 13.0.0
Description The TarIO initializer in src/PIL/TarIO.py accepts a negative octal member size, causing a backward seek that returns to the same 512-byte header. If the requested member name does not match, the parser repeatedly reads the header, leading to full CPU core consumption and a hang. This issue occurs only when an application directly utilizes PIL.TarIO.TarIO instead of the default Image.open() path.
Recommendations Update to version 13.0.0. As a temporary mitigation, restrict the direct use of the PIL.TarIO.TarIO class.
