Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions SABnzbd versions prior to 5.1.0Beta3
Description Orphan-job management in sabnzbd/api.py fails to properly confine the user-controlled value parameter before it is processed by os.path.join() with download dir. When an absolute path is provided, the base directory is discarded, allowing an attacker with a valid API key to perform arbitrary deletions of files or directories writable by the SABnzbd process, such as configuration, queue data, and downloads. This is achieved by invoking mode=status with name=delete orphan to reach the api delete orphan function and the remove all() function in sabnzbd/filesystem.py, which utilizes shutil.rmtree() for recursive deletion. The functions api add orphan and api delete all orphan are also affected by this path-validation issue. The API key is stored in plaintext within sabnzbd.ini.
Recommendations Update to version 5.1.0Beta3.
