Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Netopeer2 versions prior to 2.8.8
Description
A low-privileged authenticated
NETCONF user can remotely crash the netopeer2-server by sending a get RPC containing an invalid subtree filter with format specifiers. The issue occurs because np2srv rpc get cb() in src/netconf.c passes an invalid value to np2log printf(), which uses vsnprintf() to format the message. Subsequently, in src/log.c, this formatted buffer is passed to np2log() as the format string itself, leading vsyslog() to interpret attacker-controlled percent sequences and read invalid pointer arguments, resulting in a denial of service.Recommendations
Update to version 2.8.8 or later.
