Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description
Refcount corruption occurs in the tracing synthetic event handling. In the
event hist trigger parse() and hist unreg all() functions, the system uses find synth event() to look up events via trace event name(file->event call). Because find synth event() only compares the event basename, registering or removing a histogram on a non-synthetic trace event with a basename matching a synthetic event incorrectly modifies the synthetic event's reference count. This can lead to a synthetic event being freed while an active histogram action still holds a pointer to it, potentially resulting in a system crash or memory corruption.Recommendations
At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
