Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
openSUSE Tumbleweed versions prior to kernel-devel-7.0.11-1.1
Description
An issue exists in the ASoC (ALSA System on Chip) SOF (Sound Open Firmware) component where pointer operations are permitted on unconfigured streams. When reporting the pointer for a compressed stream, the system calculates the current I/O frame position by dividing the position by the product of the number of channels and the number of container bytes. Because these values default to 0 and are only configured during stream parameter setup, a divide-by-zero condition can occur.
Recommendations
Update to a version where the system validates that these values are non-zero before performing the division.
Update openSUSE Tumbleweed to kernel-devel-7.0.11-1.1.
