Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Slate Digital Connect version 1.37.0
Description
The software installs a privileged helper tool, 'com.slatedigital.connect.privileged.helper.tool', which exposes the XPC service 'com.slatedigital.connect.privileged.helper.tool2'. The helper validates connecting XPC clients by retrieving the process identifier (PID) and using it to check code-signing information. This PID-based validation is susceptible to a time-of-check time-of-use (TOCTOU) race condition, where a local attacker can exploit PID reuse to bypass validation by masquerading as a trusted process. This allows unauthorized access to privileged helper functionality and may lead to local privilege escalation.
Recommendations
At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
