Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description An issue exists in the netfs component where netfs invalidate folio() fails to clear the dirty bit when all changes in a folio are removed during a file truncation. This leaves the folio in a dirty state without an associated netfs folio structure. When the folio is subsequently accessed via mmap(), the netfs read folio() function detects the dirty flag and calls netfs read gaps() to fill missing data. Because netfs read gaps() expects a netfs folio structure to be present, the absence of this structure can lead to a system oops (a kernel panic or crash).
Recommendations At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
