Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description
An issue exists in the x86 architecture where the Safe-RET mitigation is susceptible to interrupt injection on machines affected by Speculative Return Stack Overflow (SRSO), a condition where the processor speculatively executes instructions based on a corrupted return stack. An attacker can inject interrupts during the execution of the Safe-RET sequence to neutralize it, which may lead to data leakage through speculative execution.
