Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description
An issue exists in the gve driver where the Rx queue can experience a permanent stall during periods of extreme memory pressure. This occurs when page allocations fail during the Rx buffer refill loop, causing the number of buffers posted to hardware to drop below a critical threshold. Consequently, the device drops incoming packets, no Rx completions are generated, and NAPI (New API, a mechanism for reducing interrupt overhead) is never scheduled to restart the refill loop. This failure prevents the queue from recovering even after memory becomes available.
Recommendations
At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
