Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description
An issue exists in the
userfaultfd mechanism that allows the registration of special Virtual Memory Areas (VMAs). Specifically, it permits registration on shadow stack VMAs, which could enable an attacker to discard a page and inject a page containing chosen return addresses using the UFFDIO COPY operation. The flaw is addressed by updating the vma can userfault() function to reject VM SHADOW STACK and VM SPECIAL flags, ensuring that special VMAs cannot be registered, while excluding hugetlb VMAs from the VM SPECIAL check.Recommendations
At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
