Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description
A Use-After-Free (UAF) issue exists in the
gigabyte waterforce hardware monitoring (hwmon) component. The problem occurs because hid hw stop() does not stop device IO, creating a race condition between hid input report() and the sequence following hid device io start() in the driver probe function. If the probe operation fails after IO has started, this race condition can be triggered. Use-After-Free is a scenario where a program continues to use a pointer after it has been freed, which can lead to crashes or unauthorized memory access.Recommendations
At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
