Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel versions prior to 7.1-rc7
Description
A memory leak exists in the
ieee80211 register hw() function within the mac80211 wifi module. The issue occurs when the kmemdup() function fails while copying supported band structures, causing the error path to jump to fail rate. This sequence bypasses the rate control deinitialize() function, resulting in a leak of the initialized local->rate ctrl variable.Recommendations
Update the Linux kernel to a version where this issue is resolved.
