Description An issue exists in the ntfs ir reparent() function where the system updates the index root header before resizing the resident value. When the root stub requires more space than the existing resident value, the code publishes larger index.index length and index.allocated size values prematurely. If the subsequent resize operation fails due to insufficient space (-ENOSPC), the recovery path may call ntfs inode add attrlist(). This leads to a state where the root header indicates an allocated size of 40 bytes while the resident value only provides 32 bytes, causing the $INDEX ROOT validation to reject the layout as corrupt.
Recommendations At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
