Description An issue exists in the ext4 file system when the data=journal mount option is used. The ext4 journalled write end() function incorrectly calls ext4 write inline data end() without verifying if the EXT4 STATE MAY INLINE DATA flag is still set on the inode. If a prior attempt to convert inline data to an extent failed due to ENOSPC (out of disk space), the EXT4 STATE MAY INLINE DATA flag is cleared while the EXT4 INODE INLINE DATA flag remains. Consequently, a subsequent call to ext4 write begin() does not prepare the inline data xattr for writing, but ext4 journalled write end() still attempts to write to it. This triggers a kernel BUG in ext4 write inline data() because the i inline size was not expanded.

Recommendations At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
