Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description
An issue exists in the rtw89 Wi-Fi driver where an incorrect data type for the scan index can lead to an infinite loop during Wi-Fi scanning on the 6GHz band. This causes a kernel soft lockup in the
rtw89 hw scan add chan ax() function, where the CPU becomes stuck for over 20 seconds, ultimately resulting in a system panic. The problem occurs because the counter variable i reaches an excessively high value, and the system incorrectly zero-extends the low 8 bits of the register into the accumulator during comparison.Recommendations
At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
