Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
NGINX Plus (affected versions not specified)
NGINX Open Source versions prior to 1.30.5
NGINX Open Source versions prior to 1.31.6
Description
A heap buffer overflow can occur in the
ngx http v3 module module when using HTTP/3 with OpenSSL versions 3.5.0 and earlier under specific configurations. The issue triggers during the processing of a Transport Layer Security (TLS) handshake—a process used to establish a secure connection—in a non-deterministic manner. This may lead to a restart of the NGINX worker process, causing a denial-of-service (DoS), or result in limited data corruption. This is a data plane issue with no control plane exposure.Recommendations
Update NGINX Open Source to version 1.30.5 or later.
Update NGINX Open Source to version 1.31.6 or later.
As a temporary mitigation, restrict the use of the
ngx http v3 module module or disable HTTP/3 support.Fix
