Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description
An out-of-bounds read exists in the
ext4 read inline dir() function. The issue occurs when the function reads a directory entry header beyond the end of its inline buffer, which can trigger a slab-out-of-bounds read during the getdents64() system call. This happens because the iteration runs in a position space larger than the actual buffer size, allowing a directory entry header to extend past the allocated memory. Consequently, the ext4 check dir entry() function may dereference de->rec len before the entry is properly rejected.Recommendations
At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
