Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description An issue exists in the video-i2c media component where the kthread run() function returns an ERR PTR (an error pointer) upon failure instead of NULL. When the start streaming() function fails, the kthread vid cap variable retains this error pointer. This leads to two problems: subsequent calls to start streaming() may incorrectly report success without starting the capture thread, and calls to stop streaming() may attempt to execute kthread stop() on the error pointer, resulting in a kernel crash.
Recommendations At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
