Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description
An issue exists in the
fs/ntfs3 component where the ni create attr list() function allocates a fixed buffer based on record size but fails to verify the buffer boundary while writing attribute entries. A crafted NTFS image containing a large number of nameless, minimum-size attributes can cause the list to exceed the allocated buffer size, resulting in a slab-out-of-bounds write on the heap. This can be triggered by opening a file and adding an attribute via setxattr, which follows the execution path ntfs set ea() -> ni insert resident() -> ni insert attr() -> ni ins attr ext() -> ni create attr list().Recommendations
At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
