Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description An issue exists in the exfat file system where a race condition occurs when a shared writable mapping has its valid size extended via a buffered write or a page fault. In this scenario, the system zeroes the page-cache gap below the new valid size, which can lead to a store operation through the mapping being overwritten. This is addressed by implementing lazy zeroing of the gap and modifying the page fault process so that the first write fault is handled by the exfat page mkwrite() function to advance the valid size for the faulting page.
Recommendations At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
