Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description
An ABBA deadlock occurs in the ext4 file system when processing concurrent xattr workloads using the
ea inode mount or format option. The deadlock happens between a running transaction and an eviction thread. Specifically, one task holds a reference to a shared mbcache entry and calls ext4 xattr inode cache find() which leads to ext4 iget(). If the EA inode is being evicted, ext4 iget() blocks in wait on freeing inode(). Simultaneously, the eviction thread in ext4 evict ea inode() calls mb cache entry wait unused(), blocking until the first task releases the mbcache entry reference, creating a circular dependency. An ABBA deadlock is a synchronization issue where two different threads acquire the same two locks in a different order, causing both to wait indefinitely for each other.Recommendations
At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
