Description
The updater and signature verification path can accept a modified
GUP.exe file. This occurs because the system accepts the file if embedded certificate metadata is present, even if the Authenticode digest is invalid. An attacker capable of replacing or planting the updater-related file can execute modified code when a user triggers the updater path. This issue does not allow for remote code execution on its own.Recommendations
Update to version 8.9.8.
