Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description An issue exists in the memory management subsystem where kernels compiled with CONFIG DEBUG VM can experience a boot panic. This occurs when hugetlb free vmemmap is enabled and bootmem HugeTLB folios are prepared via the gather bootmem prealloc() function. The prep and add bootmem folios() function may access pageblock flags on pages whose mirrored tail struct pages point to a shared tail page in zone->vmemmap tails[] before that shared tail page has been initialized. Consequently, the get pfnblock bitmap bitidx() function dereferences the uninitialized page, leading to a system panic during the boot process.
Recommendations At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
