Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description An issue exists in the memory control group (memcg) where dying tasks can become stuck in the exit path for extended periods. This occurs when the oom reaper (a kernel mechanism that attempts to reclaim memory from processes killed by the Out-Of-Memory killer) fails to acquire the mmap lock in read mode, causing it to set the MMF OOM SKIP flag and stop retrying. Consequently, thousands of exiting threads may serialize behind the oom lock while attempting to charge memory during futex cleanup(), leading to significant delays in process termination. In one observed case, a job remained stuck for over 8 hours.
Recommendations At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
