Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description A circular locking dependency exists in the OCFS2 file system within the ocfs2 init acl() function. The issue occurs between the &oi->ip xattr sem and &journal->j trans barrier locks. A deadlock can happen across two code paths: one where ocfs2 xattr set() acquires ip xattr sem before starting a transaction that acquires j trans barrier, and another where ocfs2 mknod() starts a transaction acquiring j trans barrier before calling ocfs2 init acl(), which then attempts to acquire ip xattr sem. Due to writer priority in rw semaphores, a pending writer on j trans barrier can block the first path, while the second path remains blocked waiting for the release of ip xattr sem.
Recommendations At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
