Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description A race condition exists in the btrfs component of the Linux kernel. In the invalidate and check btree folios() function, the system waits for an extent buffer to finish reading and then verifies if it is held only by the current process and the btree inode. A timing window exists between end bbio meta read() and invalidate and check btree folios() where the EXTENT BUFFER READING flag may be cleared, but the reference count eb->refs still indicates the buffer is held by a reader. This leads to false alerts and warnings indicating that the extent buffer cannot be released.
Recommendations At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
