Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description
In
CONFIG PPC KERNEL PCREL mode, the r2 register is available as a caller-saved register. The functions call do irq() and call do softirq() use inline assembly to call functions with stack switching but do not include r2 in their clobber lists. This leads the compiler to incorrectly assume that r2 is preserved across these calls. When the called functions do irq() and do softirq() modify r2, register corruption occurs, resulting in a kernel crash during interrupt handling and failure to boot. This issue is specifically exposed when using newer compilers, such as GCC 14, which utilize r2 for values spanning function calls.Recommendations
At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
