Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description
A deadlock occurs in the ext4 file system during the mount process when the system is not yet active (!SB ACTIVE). The function
ext4 try to expand extra isize() is called from ext4 mark inode dirty() while holding an active jbd2 handle. In this state, the expansion path may move extended attributes (xattrs) to external blocks and release ea inodes via iput(). Because the system is not active, iput() calls write inode now(), which attempts to acquire s writepages rwsem, resulting in a circular lock dependency: s writepages rwsem -> jbd2 handle -> xattr sem -> s writepages rwsem. This condition can be triggered through the following execution paths:ext4 process orphan()->ext4 truncate()->ext4 mark inode dirty()->ext4 try to expand extra isize()ext4 evict inode()->ext4 mark inode dirty()->ext4 try to expand extra isize()
