Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description
An issue exists in the btrfs tree-checker where the
namelen of an INODE REF item is not properly validated. A crafted btrfs image containing a corrupted INODE REF item with a namelen exceeding the normal limit of 255 bytes (e.g., 4096 bytes) can trigger an out-of-boundary memory access. This occurs because the memory allocated for the name is only 255 bytes, leading to a kernel page fault and a subsequent system crash (kernel panic) during the execution of the btrfs get name() function.Recommendations
At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
