Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description
An issue exists in the btrfs tree-checker where
ROOT REF and ROOT BACKREF items, which consist of a btrfs root ref structure followed by a subvolume name, are not properly validated. Some readers rely on the on-disk name length without verification. A corrupted item can cause these readers to access memory outside the item boundaries. Specifically, the BTRFS IOC GET SUBVOL INFO ioctl can copy an excessive number of bytes into its fixed-size UAPI name buffer.Recommendations
At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
