Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description
An issue exists in the I3C master driver for NPCM845 where a target on the I3C bus holding the SDA line low causes the controller to report a false Master Request (MR) in-band interrupt event. The driver attempts to restore the bus by emitting a STOP condition. However, due to the
SVC I3C QUIRK FALSE SLVSTART hardware quirk, emitting a STOP condition can spuriously set the SLVSTART interrupt status bit. This creates a feedback loop where the STOP condition triggers a new SLVSTART event, causing the IRQ handler to fire repeatedly and emit further STOP conditions. This results in an IRQ storm, which is a state where the system is overwhelmed by a continuous stream of interrupts, potentially locking up the CPU.Recommendations
At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
