Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description An issue exists in the XFS file system when exchanging two full-file ranges. The function xmi can exchange reflink flags() may incorrectly move the reflink inode flag between files when XFS EXCHMAPS INO1 WRITTEN is set. This occurs because xfs exchmaps can skip mapping() can skip hole and unwritten mappings, leading to a scenario where the reflink flag is cleared from an inode that still owns shared written extents. Consequently, subsequent writes may bypass the Copy-on-Write (CoW) protection—a mechanism that ensures data is copied before being modified to prevent altering shared data—resulting in data corruption between reflink-related files.
Recommendations At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
