Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel versions prior to 7.3
Description
An issue exists in the XFS file system where blocks are under-reserved when repairing shortform directories. This occurs because the
xfs da args object passed to xfs dir2 sf to block incorrectly sets the args->total variable to 1, regardless of the actual directory block size relative to the filesystem block size. Additionally, the xrep tempexch estimate function incorrectly assumes a shortform conversion requires only one filesystem block. This under-reservation of space in the transaction can lead to an assertion failure in the xfs da grow inode int() function or cause a complete filesystem shutdown.Recommendations
Update the Linux kernel to version 7.3 or later.
