Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description An issue exists in the NTFS driver where the ntfs sync fs() function unconditionally clears the dirty bit of a volume. This behavior differs from ntfs put super() and the remount-read-only path, which only clear the dirty bit when NVolErrors(vol) is false. Consequently, performing a sync() on a volume that has recorded errors incorrectly marks the volume as clean. This prevents the system from recognizing that recovery is needed, leaving existing errors unrepaired. This was observed in scenarios where the $MFTMirr does not match the $MFT, causing the error flag to be set while the mount remains read-write.
Recommendations At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
