Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description An issue exists in the NTFS driver where the update reparse data() function ignores the return value of set reparse index(). If the index insertion fails, the system removes the recently written reparse data as a cleanup measure but continues to return 0. This causes symlink(2) and WSL special file creation to report success even though no reparse data was actually saved to the disk. Similarly, failures are silently ignored when no previous reparse data exists (oldsize == 0).
Recommendations At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
