Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description
An issue exists in the ext4 file system where transaction overflow can occur during writeback. This happens because the reserved credits for extent conversion were insufficient in certain corner cases. Specifically, extent conversion may require touching several leaf extent blocks or splitting extents—such as splitting a single large unwritten extent into many small written ones during sparse folio dirtying—which may necessitate the allocation of new extent tree nodes. To resolve this, the
ext4 meta trans blocks() function should be used to provide a correct upper bound credit estimate.Recommendations
At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
